Random Thoughts for a New Year

As Big J keeps saying, it's hard to believe it will 2011 tomorrow. I still vividly remember waiting for the breakdown of order on New Year's Eve 1999.

Our New Year's Eve traditions have become less party-like in the last few years. But we still enjoy good food and wine as we toast the outgoing year -- this year we are celebrating with crab and champagne.

This morning when they did the decade in review on NPR, I was jolted into reality as I was reminded that 9/11 happened in the last decade. The last ten years have actually been eventful, and not always in a good way.

Taking an idea from family friends, we've decided to keep a family list of all the books we read over the course of the year with author, title and number of pages. Then at the end of 2011 we'll add up how much we've read. A good way to stay motivated to read!

Speaking of reading, I have a lot of books on my list again this year. If only there were more hours in a day and less papers to grade!

You read it here first: My 2011 goal is to do a sprint triathlon. Training begins Monday!

What is a sprint triathlon? Congratulations! I'm trying to figure out what my physical goal is going to be for 2011 so I can "put it out there" and stick to it...
Happy New Year!

A 750 meter swim, 20k bike and 5k run. I think it's a doable goal and am looking at one in early June. Woohoo!
