A Self-Observation

As someone who doesn't believe in a god I think it is hilarious to tell others (i.e., believers) that things are the way they are because that's how God wants them. For example: Put the lid down on the toilet seat because if God wanted the toilet to be open all the time he wouldn't have given it a lid.

I've also used this for good during a thunderstorm where little j's friend was scared, as in: It's just God rearranging his furniture. Said friend, as a daughter of a minister, was pretty okay with that answer and actually wanted to engage in conversation about what type of furniture s/he might have and how it would be arranged. I left that conversation alone, but at least it took her mind off the scary (her word, not mine) noise.

Clearly, I don't believe either of those things, and I hope people who are theists don't either. Because really, if there was a god would s/he really care about toilet lids? And I think we all know that thunder is not furniture moving around. Still, it's often fun to poke at little at peoples' core beliefs and see how far they will go along.
