For some reason I am really relaxed. Perhaps it is because today was absolutely beautiful, or perhaps it is because I know that my survey is going out on Wednesday. Either way, this is the first time in quite a while that I haven't felt anxious.
We are having friends over tomorrow to celebrate Vaffeldagen (Swedish Waffle Day), so instead of doing our weekly shopping on Sunday I did it today while Big J and little j stayed home and cleaned house. Shopping on Saturday was a revelation. There were very few people there and all the shelves were stocked, which isn't the case on Sunday. I came home and we had lunch, took a little rest and then headed out to watch the women's lacrosse team play Princeton. little j loved it. Then we stopped to pick up some potting soil, a few more flowers, and strawberry plants, then home to plant. We spent the next couple of hours planting and working outside.
Then I made dinner: Rosemary Lamb Kebabs with Tapenade Rosemary Aioli, grilled corn on the cob, bread and salad. Yum! We rounded that out with a bottle of our own wine. After dinner we went for a walk, then on the way home Big J stopped to talk to a neighbor and little j and I had dance party courtesy of Mr. JT in the living room.
little j and I read two chapters of Charlotte's Web this evening, and as we were reading I thought about how perfectly E. B. White described a summer evening and how I continue to be enchanted by his prose. I think I appreciate the book more now than I did when I first read it as a child.
What a great day! No worries, nothing hanging over my head, beautiful weather, and fun with the family. I couldn't ask for a better day.
