Billy Joel, my friends, Billy Joel.
Yes, last night was the night and it far surpassed my expectations. For someone born in 1970, Billy Joel is an icon. There isn't a time that I don't remember listening to Billy Joel. And although his songs are of the time, they are, as demonstrated last night, timeless.
I can't begin to say enough about Billy Joel's amazing vocals. At 56 years old, his voice is just as clear, if not more so, than it was 20 years ago. You know when you go to a concert and you absolutely love the artist, but the concert is a huge disappointment because live is just not as good as studio? Billy Joel live is way better than studio. His personality, his obvious love of music, his amazing piano playing are all part of the intensity of the show.
The set list was incredible -- seriously, how could it not be with a music catalogue such as his. From She's Always a Woman to Movin' Out and River of Dreams, and of course the finale of Piano Man there were no disappointments.
For me, this was a once in a lifetime experience. I never dreamed that I would see Billy Joel in concert and the reality far exceeded my dreams.
