I don't make New Year resolutions. I think people just set themselves up for disappointment when they make resolutions. Of course it is good to have goals, but I think setting a resolution is a recipe for failure because they are generally so lofty that one slip can be a major let down. I think a better idea is to set expectations for the year.
Anyone who knows me knows that I am an expectation setter. For example, every time we plan an outing of some sort I have a time line of when we are going to leave the house in my head. Sometimes we get in the car and head out and I say, "Look. Right on time." Sometimes, if we don't meet my time schedule, I will be extra grumpy. Big J always reminds me that in order to leave the house according to my time table I should share my expectations. How true! And truly that is a minor thing. Imagine how much easier life would be if we all shared our expectations with each other.
So, my expectation for the new year, among other things, is to make my expectations known and clear. I think I can do it.
