Acceptable Racism?

Just lately I have been noticing that there are a lot of people on television using the phrase "off the reservation." Do they realize the origins of the phrase and why it is incredibly offensive? Would there ever be a situation where it would be considered acceptable to say, "He's gone off the plantation?"

I wouldn't think so. Therefore, if it is unacceptable to disparage one group of historically oppressed minorities, what makes it okay to do so to another? Is it because American Indians are virtually invisible in our society?

I'm just going to go out on a limb here and say that there is no form of racism or prejudice that is acceptable. And until we start speaking up about the seemingly small incidents, they will continue.

That phrase gets under my skin so badly. I am always offended when I hear it, and like you, believe that it wouldn't be acceptable any other way.

Grrr...

I also have issues with how houses are advertised. Master bath, master suite. Same same. By the way I have never heard the phrase, "off the reservation." And, I just moved from a place where I was a minority. White, educated, moral.
