New Classics Book Challenge

Some of my blogging girlfriends are doing the New Classics Challenge, so I thought I would try it out. Below are the books I have read from Entertainment Weekly's New Classics: 100 Best Reads from 1983 to 2008. While I don't necessarily agree with the list as a whole, I have read a good number of the books and there are definitely 6 books on the list that I've been wanting to read. Plus, since I am done with grad school I think that I'll have a little more time to read and this will get me started on some good books.

So, the books listed below in bold are the ones from the list that I have read.

2. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, J.K. Rowling (2000)

3. Beloved, Toni Morrison (1987)
5. American Pastoral, Philip Roth (1997)
8. Selected Stories, Alice Munro (1996)
9. Cold Mountain, Charles Frazier (1997)
11. Into Thin Air, Jon Krakauer (1997)
16. The Handmaid's Tale, Margaret Atwood (1986)
20. Bridget Jones's Diary, Helen Fielding (1998)
24. Lonesome Dove, Larry McMurtry (1985)
25. The Joy Luck Club, Amy Tan (1989)
28. Naked, David Sedaris (1997)
29. Bel Canto, Anne Patchett (2001)
31. The Things They Carried, Tim O'Brien (1990)
36. Angela's Ashes, Frank McCourt (1996)
41. The House on Mango Street, Sandra Cisneros (1984)
48. The Poisonwood Bible, Barbara Kingsolver (1998)
52. Waiting to Exhale, Terry McMillan (1992)
60. Nickel & Dimed, Barbara Ehrenreich (2001)
75. Cathedral, Raymond Carver (1983)
80. Bright Lights, Big City, Jay McInerney (1984)
81. Backlash, Susan Faludi (1991)
83. The Stone Diaries, Carol Shields (1994)

94. Fast Food Nation, Eric Schlosser (2001)
96. The Da Vinci Code, Dan Brown (2003)
99. Practical Magic, Alice Hoffman (1995)

And here are the books that I am going to read by January 31, 2009.

12. Blindness, José Saramago (1998)
14. Black Water, Joyce Carol Oates (1992)

C,

This is AWESOME. I am signing up right now. Thanks for the post! I need a reading challenge . . . especially since I am giving into August and abandoning gardening for a spell.
