Who are we?

Yesterday Big J was jonesing to get out of the house. He tried to convince little j to go to a movie, go downtown to a toy store, anything to get out. But she was a complete homebody. Finally in late afternoon we all bundled up and went downtown for soup and gelato. Sadly the soup place closed early. So we settled for a slice at our favorite pizza place. We strolled down the mall, looked in store windows, played in the toy store, gazed at the Christmas tree and finally stopped for gelato.

On the way back to the car we heard what sounded like a really bad marching band. Curious, we went to check it out. It turned out to be The Bread and Puppet Theater's Divine Reality Comedy Circus at a local venue. We bought tickets, found a seat -- it was a packed house -- and settled in for some live entertainment with no expectations.

It turned out to be a raucous evening of political commentary and satire accompanied by papier-mache masks and homemade costumes. At one point during the performance while little j was laughing I turned to Big J and said, "We just brought our five-year old to a ultra-liberal theater performance." He responded, "I know. Isn't it great."

Between commentary on the war in Iraq, global warming, consumerism, and morality plays it was a fun evening. While she of course didn't get a lot of the content, she was definitely entertained and there were times when the messages where clear (e.g., use your words!).
