(inter)national [fill in the blank] day

I've recently started to compile a list of all international/national alternative holidays. For example September 19 is International Talk Like A Pirate Day. I have an inkling that someday this could make a very good coffee table book. Of course, that day will have to come after I have completed my dissertation.

So, if you have thoughts, ideas, suggestions for inclusion I'd love to hear them because I still have about 360 days to come up with.

Why do I bring this up today? Well it came to my attention that this month is National Novel Writing Month in which people, who apparently have nothing else going on in their lives endeavor to write a novel in 30 days. In response to this insanity came National Blog Posting Month, in which people who blog (e.g., me) are challenged to post every day. Please! Is there a day or month for everything? How crazy can this get? I thought National Ice Cream Month (July) was stretching it, because do you eat more ice cream in July than in August? (Maybe people eat more popsicles in August -- which supports National Creamsicle Day being August 14.) The next thing you know we will have National Pooper Scooper Month -- which incidentally should be in the spring because a lot of people don't scoop throughout the winter months so by the time April comes there's a lot of doo-doo out in those yards. For some reason we feel the need to celebrate every thing. And this is how I know there will be a market for my book.

NOTE: Of course, now I have just given away the idea for a bestseller to you, my dear reader. So let me just say if you want in on the royalties feel free to send along your ideas and you will most certainly get credit. If you forge ahead and publish this on your own without crediting me, I hope you spend eternity wracked with guilt....you know my motto: WWTJD? Hmmmm?

HOLY CRAP! There really is National Pooper Scooper Week! April 24 - 30...I can hardly believe it.
