Going Too Far

I've made absolutely clear that I will in no way support Palin. In fact I believe her 15 minutes are almost up (thank goodness). However, here's where I draw the line:

In Maureen Dowd's Sunday column, "A Makeover With an Ugly Gloss," she describes Palin's $150,000 shopping spree this way:

Politico broke the news that the Republican National Committee spent over $150,000 on a “Pretty Woman”-style shopping spree for Palin, including about $75,000 at Neiman Marcus in Minneapolis and nearly $50,000 at Saks Fifth Avenue in New York and St. Louis.

The Politico news story did not include the "Pretty Woman" reference. Interestingly, Dowd chastises the McCain campaign for complaining that the media has been sexist in their treatment of Palin, writing, "Sexism would be to treat Palin differently, or more delicately, than one of the guys."

Please tell me, Ms. Dowd, how many times have you compared a man buying clothes to a prostitute on a shopping spree?

Apparently female bashing is acceptable when it is done by a woman.
