Last night I went to a Planned Parenthood sponsored training on Virginia's ballot question to amend the state constitution to ban gay marriages. In addition to banning gay marriage, the legislation proposes to invalidate ALL civil unions and domestic partnerships. Not only does it discriminate against and restrict the rights of gays and lesbians, among other things, it carries with it potentially dire consequences for unmarried victims of domestic abuse.
If you are reading this post, and you live in Virginia, please vote no on ballot question one on November 7.
Please be sure to read the full text of the question:
Question: Shall Article I (the Bill of Rights) of the Constitution of Virginia be amended to state:
"That only a union between one man and one woman may be a marriage valid in or recognized by this Commonwealth and its political subdivisions.
This Commonwealth and its political subdivisions shall not create or recognize a legal status for relationships of unmarried individuals that intends to approximate the design, qualities, significance, or effects of marriage. Nor shall this Commonwealth or its political subdivisions create or recognize another union, partnership, or other legal status to which is assigned the rights, benefits, obligations, qualities, or effects of marriage."?
